The Georgia Area Council

The Georgia Area Council is a membership of board volunteers and chief executive officers of Boys & Girls Clubs in the state of Georgia. 


The purpose of the Area Council is sharing best practices, reviewing trends and identifying challenges and opportunities facing our organizations and the youth we serve.


This exchange of information will allow Clubs in Georgia to make the best plan of service and use of resources for our future.

Georgia Council Information: 

The Council meets annually in October to elect officers, present awards and conduct the Hall of Fame installation.  

It also meets periodically to:
  • work and plan together for the benefit of local Clubs, the national Movement and young people
  • interpret the purposes and programs of Boys & Girls Clubs to the public
  • plan joint consideration and action with other organizations and agencies
  • provide opportunities for conferences with the officers and staff of Boys & Girls Clubs of America
  • initiate ideas, suggestions and proposals for National Council consideration
  • review and discuss proposed changes to the Constitution and Membership Requirements of Boys & Girls Clubs of America
  • assist in the expansion and improvement of he Boys & Girls Club Movement
  • assist in securing support for Boys & Girls Clubs of America
  • provide a forum for fellowship and networking among board volunteers
 
Council projects & services include:
  • Sponsorship of an annual board leaders conferences and training   
  • Assistance with the promotion and establishment of new Boys & Girls Clubs 
  • Coordination of joint marketing and communications efforts 
  • Encouragement and assistance to developing Clubs 
  • Assistance with National Conference planning and attendance 
  • Help local Clubs within the Area Council which have been affected by a major crisis due to severe weather or other natural disasters


Georgia State Awards

The C.A.R.E Award
Children Are the Reason for Excellence Award is given annually as to recognition of individuals, donors, and corporations from all sectors for outstanding efforts to impact the lives of the children who need us most throughout the Georgia area. The CARE recipients have made a major difference for the Boys & Girls Club Movement in Georgia.

Leadership Awards presented October 2016:
  • Georgia Professional of the Year:  Steve Mickens, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County 
  • Board Member of the Year – Judy Bellenger, Boys & Girls Club of North Georgia
  • Beverly Burton New Board Member of the Year: William Minkema, Boys & Girls Clubs of Coffee County Region
  • High Performance Board Team Award: Boys & Girls Clubs of Bartow County

Program Awards presented October 2016:
  • The WellCare Health & Life Skills: Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Bike Safety Program
  • Character & Leadership:  Boys & Girls Clubs of Chattahoochee Valley, It Takes a Village
  • The Arts: Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Cyber Echo
  • Education & Career Development: Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, Workforce Development
  • Georgia Program of the Year: Boys & Girls Clubs of Chattahoochee Valley, Empowered Youth of Columbus


National Awards


Boys & Girls Clubs of America sponsors National Recognition Awards for all member Clubs.  Awards are available for Board members, Club staff and program volunteers.  Nomination forms and more information is available on BGCA.net.   Completed forms should be submitted to the SE Regional Office for processing.  


Your submission will be acknowledged and you will be notified of approval / denial.  Processing time is four to six weeks, so please plan accordingly when you are planning presentation of awards.
